Foreign Minister Champagne said – another shock to China, Canada pulled hands from free trade talks

Toronto, Another shock to China. Canada has closed free trade talks with
Beijing due to huge differences on several issues. Canadian Foreign Minister
said – 2020 China is not like 2016.

Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne said in an interview,”In the current situation I do not think that such talks can be continued at this time.”2020 China is not the same as 2016. Canada’s top diplomat says his country will decide the strategy ahead only after reviewing its Beijing policy.

Canada is also strict towards China like other countries.

This reflects major changes in Canadian policy. Canada, like the United States, Australia and some European Union countries, is now adopting a tough attitude towards China. After Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister in 2015, his government showed a keen interest in expanding economic relations with China. Trudeau went on a trip to Beijing in 2016. Negotiations began shortly thereafter on the possibilities of a free trade agreement.

Canadian and Chinese relations decline due to imposition of Chinese laws in Hong Kong.

There are many reasons behind the rivalry in the relationship between the two countries. Such as the imposition of Chinese laws in Hong Kong, the arrest of each other’s citizens, the ban on meat imports from Canada by China, etc.
